What We Offer

2026 Application Guidelines:

This year, MARC is offering three residencies:  a two-week spring residency from Sunday, May 31 through Sunday, June 14, 2026, and a two-week autumn residency from Sunday, September 20 through Sunday, October 4, 2026. There is a ten-day summer residency from Sunday, June 28, through Wednesday, July 8, 2026, designated for Maine art teachers (K-12).

The first 2-week residency will be located at the Bert Poole Studio. This well-kept cottage is the ideal location for someone seeking time “off the grid” to create. Just past the Ice Pond, away from the hubbub of the village, the cottage offers privacy, light, and sweeping views of the ocean. In addition to indoor studio space, the cottage has a large deck for making work en plein air. The cottage expands over two levels and includes one full bath and a well-stocked kitchen (pots/pans, dishes; no microwave). Sheets and towels are not provided. The cottage is powered by solar electricity; no broadband, but internet can be accessed via your cellphone or mobile hotspot; residents will be expected to carry their own luggage down a winding path and up a ramp to the studio space.

The 2nd 2-week residency will be located at Zimmie's. Zimmie’s is a classic 4-square house with a lovely porch that can be used as a studio. The cottage is lightly furnished, so there is lots of room for artwork of all kinds. The first floor has a fully functioning kitchen (stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots/pans, tableware) and a full bath (including a washing machine). A bedroom is located on the second floor, along with another full bath. Sheets and towels will be supplied. While on the main street in the village, this back area is always quiet and faces west for warm sunsets. Zimmie's has wifi via the island's broadband network.

The 10-Day residency will be located in the Studio building on the Trailing Yew campus. Facilities for the K-12 Teacher Residency involve shared bathroom and bathing facilities outside of the studio/living space (approximately 20 steps away). Breakfast and dinner will be provided by the Trailing Yew. While refrigeration is available on the hotel campus, there are no additional cooking facilities. For this residency, there is a stipend of $150 to support living expenses while you are on the island.

Applications, including images of your work and a narrative, are made through the Submittable website and are open from January through March 19th 2026. Applicants will be notified by April 19th.
